Profiles & active settingsPRO

Managing configuration profiles and understanding active vs stored settings.

Concepts

TermDefinition
ProfileStored configuration set (network, inputs, outputs, etc.) excluding certain global flags
Active settingsCurrently applied runtime configuration (editable without altering stored profile)

Excluded from profiles: test picture on/off, recording state, customized test picture, some system-level items (SIM, Wi-Fi cost management).

Workflow

  1. Select profile → Its settings copy to active settings.
  2. Adjust active settings (temporary modifications). Display shows "Manual conf." indicating divergence.
  3. Save as new profile to persist changes (auto-named sequentially, then rename via web UI).

Operations

ActionDisplay/KeypadWeb UI

Use Cases

ScenarioStrategy
Multiple venues with distinct network paramsOne profile per venue
Temporary bitrate tweak mid-eventModify active only; revert by re-selecting profile
Rolling new encoder feature testClone profile, enable feature, keep original intact

Best Practices

  • Keep a "Baseline" profile as known-good reference.
  • Prefix experimental profiles (e.g., _test-low-latency).
  • Document profile intent in external runbook for operators.
